About The Position

As a Medical Economics Analyst on CVS Health’s Medical Expense Review (MER) team, you will provide consultative support and medical cost-based analysis of markets and network initiatives. You will consult with network and clinical management on opportunities to improve the company’s discount position and advance strategic cost and utilization initiatives. The role involves managing multiple projects and competing priorities, preparing monthly presentations, and collaborating with local market leaders on short- and long-term work intended to improve patient care. You will use analytics and consultative skills to identify cost drivers and opportunities, and work with Excel, MS-Access, Power BI, and web-based query tools connected to a data warehouse.

Requirements

• At least 6 months of experience in analytics or finance, including internships.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to work with Excel, MS-Access, Power BI, and web-based query tools (data warehouse).

Nice To Haves

• Experience within the healthcare industry.
• Experience with managed care functions, including provider contracting, benefit design, and medical management, and knowledge of business functions and their financial impact, including underwriting, sales, product development, and network management.
• Experience working with medical and pharmacy claims.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and research medical cost drivers related to utilization and unit costs.
• Turn data into usable information by communicating its story through data visualization.
• Support the development of scoreable action items by identifying outlier cost issues.
• Perform drill-down analysis to identify medical cost trend drivers and advise the network on contracting opportunities to mitigate future trends.
• Own, track, and document all aspects of related work from beginning to end of a project.
• Prepare for monthly presentations and manage long- and short-term projects in collaboration with local market leaders.
• Consult with network and clinical management on opportunities to improve the company’s discount position and strategic cost and utilization initiatives.
