About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Medical Doctor PRN to join their team of medical professionals in Bessemer, AL. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of healthcare for individuals incarcerated in the William E Donaldson Facility. The Medical Doctor will provide quality medical care to meet the healthcare needs of patients within the facility, working alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO)
  • Current unrestricted license as a physician in Alabama
  • Current DEA registration in STATE
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family or Internal Medicine
  • Ability to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
  • Strong written communication and verbal skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Experience in general medicine
  • Strong knowledge of current medical principles and practices
  • Ability to collaborate with medical team
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Performing physical exams, diagnosing and treating illnesses, and managing chronic conditions, ensuring care is provided to protect the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population.
  • Formulating working diagnoses, developing and implementing treatment plans, and evaluating/modifying therapeutic regimens.
  • Evaluating patients who have returned from off-site treatment.
  • Responding to and initiating care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
  • Coordinating, leading and participating in educational and training activities related to medical care for patients.
  • Conducting rounds in the medical and infirmary units.
  • Ensuring compliance with State and Federal mandates and regulations, including court mandates and standards.
  • Collaborating with other medical professionals to ensure staff are responsive to patients’ needs.
