About The Position

NaphCare is seeking an experienced Medical Director (MD/DO) to join our team of healthcare professionals at the Mobile County Jail in Mobile, Alabama. This is an exceptional opportunity for a physician who is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while providing clinical leadership in a dynamic correctional healthcare environment. As the Medical Director, you will lead a multidisciplinary medical team, oversee the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services, and play a vital role in ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based care for a medically complex patient population. In this leadership role, you will help shape clinical operations, support quality improvement initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and mentor medical staff all while making a meaningful impact on an underserved population.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO)
  • Current, unrestricted physician license in the State of Alabama
  • Current DEA Registration
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA required)
  • Board Certified by a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience directing physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Strong clinical background with knowledge of current medical practices, evidence-based medicine, and quality improvement principles
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Working knowledge of applicable healthcare laws, correctional healthcare standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and protected health information
  • Demonstrates integrity, professionalism, and adherence to NaphCare's Code of Conduct and all correctional healthcare policies and procedures
  • Must successfully pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Conducting rounds in the medical and infirmary units
  • Performing sick call visits and managing chronic care
  • Responding to and initiating care for medical emergencies
  • Leading quality improvement initiatives to evaluate and enhance healthcare services
  • Coordinating, leading, and participating in educational and training activities
  • Supervising Staff Physicians and other medical personnel
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations, including court mandates and accreditation standards
  • Collaborating with nursing leadership, correctional staff, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to ensure exceptional patient care
  • Supporting operational excellence through effective clinical leadership, communication, and teamwork
