About The Position

Tyler Veterinary Center, an established small-animal general practice in Tyler, Texas, is seeking a Medical Director to lead its clinical team. The practice has served the community since 1992 and provides wellness and preventative care, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, and same-day urgent care. Its equipment includes digital radiography, ultrasound, in-house diagnostics, laser therapy, and modern surgical and dental equipment. The clinic describes its culture as supportive, collaborative, and team-oriented, with an emphasis on thoughtful medicine, mentorship, and work-life balance. The Medical Director is the practice’s clinical leader and medical voice, responsible for setting standards for medical quality, patient care, client experience, and team culture. The role combines hands-on veterinary practice—occupying most of the full-time schedule—with leadership, mentorship, and medical oversight. The Medical Director supervises Associate and Partner doctors and works closely with the Practice Manager to support hospital operations, people development, care delivery, performance metrics, and business goals. The position requires a DVM/VMD or equivalent, active unrestricted veterinary licensure in the state of practice, active DEA registration for the responsible practice location(s), and any other required controlled-substance, pharmacy, or professional registrations. Candidates must have at least 3–5 years of experience as a practicing veterinarian. At least one year of veterinary-team leadership and/or multi-unit experience is preferred. The role is full-time and requires a minimum of 35 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree.
  • Active, unrestricted veterinary licensure in the state of practice.

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a practicing veterinarian.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and nonverbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex medical information in varied settings.
  • Strong time-management, prioritization, and delegation skills.
  • Sound clinical judgment and the ability to make thoughtful, well-informed decisions.
  • Ability to serve as a visible clinical leader and drive practice performance, care quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Professionalism, respect, and courtesy in all interactions.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills that foster trust, engagement, and collaboration.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 35 hours per week and actively practice for a majority of the full-time schedule.
