About The Position

Thompson was founded in 1886 and has grown into a multi-state organization serving children and families across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Our continuum of care includes: Prevention services, Mental health treatment, Foster care. Integrity. The Medical Director provides psychiatric oversight and clinical governance for Thompson’s North Carolina programs. This role is administrative and supervisory in nature and is designed to complement a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) who is responsible for day-to-day psychiatric care. The Medical Director ensures: Clinical quality and compliance, Appropriate treatment approaches, Oversight of high-risk cases, Alignment with evidence-based psychiatric practices, Administrative requirements are complete for medical necessity documentation.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO)
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified Psychiatrist in North Carolina
  • Active NC medical license
  • Enrolled and in good standing with NC Medicaid
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric care (child/adolescent experience preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to meet credentialing and privileging standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • All residential staff must pass a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training and demonstrate proper physical Therapeutic techniques and holds.

  • Child/adolescent experience preferred

  • Ensures administrative requirements are complete for medical necessity documentation.
  • Participates in key meetings (virtual or onsite as needed).
  • Provides rotating on call after hours coverage with Psychiatric NP.

  • Starting Pay Range: $150.00-$250 hourly
