About The Position

Boston Veterinary Care (BVC) is seeking a full-time Medical Director to join their team in Boston’s historic South End. BVC is part of the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) and offers comprehensive veterinary services, with 100% of its proceeds going directly to helping animals in need. The Medical Director will provide leadership and mentorship to Veterinarians and Technicians, guiding the clinic's medical practice. The role involves working in a busy, well-supported hospital with a diverse caseload including wellness care, sick visits, dentistry, surgery, and diagnostic workups. The position offers a sustainable schedule with no on-call or overnight responsibilities. BVC will be moving into a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in early 2027, occupying a dedicated space on the third floor with modern equipment and specialized areas.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Massachusetts.
  • Experience in a veterinary leadership or mentorship role.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of veterinary medical procedures, including surgery and dentistry.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to animal welfare and the mission of the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with diagnostic imaging.
  • Familiarity with shelter medicine principles.
  • Experience in a high-volume veterinary practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of Veterinarians and Technicians.
  • Guide the clinic's medical practice.
  • Practice medicine including wellness care, sick visits, dentistry, surgery, and diagnostic workups.
  • Partner closely with experienced technicians and support staff.
  • Help shape the transition into the new facility.
