About The Position

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine is seeking a physician leader to serve as Medical Director at the UF Health Ocala Neighborhood Hospital – Emergency Department. This role combines clinical practice with department leadership, guiding a growing team of Emergency Medicine physicians as they deliver the full scope of emergency care under a novel, community-focused care model. As Medical Director, you'll set the clinical and cultural tone for the department while building a collaborative team, ensuring quality and consistency of care, and serving as the primary liaison between the emergency department and hospital leadership. The UF Department of Emergency Medicine proudly maintains an affiliation with UF Health Shands Hospital, a distinguished 1,162-bed teaching facility renowned for its Level 1 trauma center and cutting-edge burn center. As the primary referral center for North Central Florida, our institution stands as a beacon of excellence in healthcare. Requirements

  • Licensed to practice medicine in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statutes plus four years of appropriate experience. Completion of a residency program may substitute for the required experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience such as prior medical director, chief, or similar role preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day clinical operations and quality of care within the department
  • Build and sustain a collaborative, high-performing team of physicians and clinical support staff
  • Address physician performance and behavioral concerns directly and constructively
  • Serve as a key liaison with hospital administration and department leadership
  • Guide the department through growth and operational transitions as the Microhospital scales
  • Champion a culture of teamwork, accountability, and excellence in patient care
