We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Medical Director to support our Fredericksburg team on a part-time basis. This role offers the opportunity to provide clinical leadership and high-quality, person-centered medical care within post-acute, long-term care and assisted living settings. The successful physician will oversee clinical standards, support patient care delivery, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, guide facility-based healthcare professionals and promote safe, effective continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Current, unrestricted Virginia medical license and eligibility to practice in Virginia
  • Current board certification or board eligibility in an appropriate medical specialty
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration and prescribing authority, as required
  • Experience in post-acute, long-term care, assisted living, geriatric, primary care, hospital or related clinical settings preferred
  • Previous medical director, physician leadership or facility-based clinical oversight experience preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning and treatment planning skills
  • Knowledge of chronic disease management, geriatric medicine, care coordination and evidence-informed clinical practice
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems and timely, accurate documentation practices
  • Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration and problem-solving abilities
  • Compassionate, culturally sensitive and person-centered approach to patient care
  • Ability to work independently while providing effective leadership to multidisciplinary care teams
  • Availability to provide reliable part-time medical director coverage based on patient and facility needs

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and medical oversight for patient care in post-acute, long-term care and assisted living settings
  • Deliver comprehensive medical evaluations, diagnosis and treatment for patients with acute and chronic health conditions
  • Conduct initial, routine and follow-up assessments, including review of medical history, medications, symptoms, diagnoses and current health concerns
  • Develop, implement and review individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, facility staff and interdisciplinary care teams
  • Support the management of complex medical conditions, changes in clinical status and urgent patient needs, escalating care appropriately when required
  • Review and manage medication regimens, treatment response, adverse effects, drug interactions and clinical risk
  • Order, interpret and follow up on relevant diagnostic tests, laboratory results and other clinical investigations
  • Provide guidance, consultation and clinical support to nurse practitioners, nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in patient care
  • Participate in care planning meetings, interdisciplinary reviews, family consultations and facility clinical meetings as required
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, advanced practice providers, specialists, hospitals, therapists, rehabilitation providers and community resources
  • Promote evidence-informed clinical practice, patient safety, infection prevention, risk management and quality improvement
  • Support appropriate transitions of care, hospital follow-up and coordination of services across the healthcare continuum
  • Provide education and support to patients, families and facility staff regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, symptom management and preventive care
  • Maintain accurate, timely and clinically appropriate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols and standards of care where appropriate
