Compassionate Medical Director – Addiction Medicine
About The Position
We are seeking an approachable, compassionate physician leader with the ability to guide a team through structured, evidence-based care and has a deep commitment to mental health and addiction medicine. This role involves directing medication protocols, overseeing physical examinations, and participating in weekly treatment team meetings to ensure comprehensive patient care. The Medical Director will also empower and mentor clinicians through training and chart reviews, drive strategic vision by participating in executive-level meetings, and champion holistic health by coordinating referrals for broader medical needs.
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of operation.
- Active DEA Registration (Schedules II, III C) with the ability/waiver to prescribe buprenorphine.
- Active Medicaid & Medicare credentials.
- Strong working knowledge of mental health/substance use treatments, Federal Confidentiality Laws, and HIPAA.
- Basic proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office / Google Workspace) and electronic medical records.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in addiction medicine, psychiatry, or primary care preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in Substance Use or Addiction Medicine is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Direct medication protocols.
- Oversee physical examinations.
- Actively participate in weekly treatment team meetings.
- Provide hands-on training, chart reviews, and continuous mentorship to nurses, NPs, PAs, and other physicians.
- Participate in Quarterly Board Meetings to help shape strategic plans, quality assurance initiatives, and clinical protocols.
- Guide patients toward comprehensive wellness, coordinating referrals to primary care providers.
- Complete admission, readmission, and annual physicals; review labs with patients.
- Issue medication change orders (including verbal orders per state regulations) and ensure accurate nursing follow-through.
- Review, complete, and sign required medical documentation and reports.
- Provide guidance and support to nursing staff to ensure safe, consistent medical practice.
