About The Position

The West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Medicine seek a Medical Director, Transplant Nephrology. The successful candidate will practice in Morgantown, WV, with potential assignments to additional worksites in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. WVU Medicine provides comprehensive transplant services, and this role will offer medical leadership to the renal transplant program. The candidate will practice in Transplant Nephrology and Nephrology, working with the Surgical Director to ensure clinical operations of the kidney transplant program, adhering to UNOS bylaws and CMS regulations. This includes guidance in patient evaluation and planning through all phases of transplantation. The Medical Director will actively participate in program growth, patient selection, quality improvement, strategic planning, and research initiatives. Additionally, the faculty member will support the Nephrology section's clinical practice needs, including inpatient and outpatient nephrology. A key aspect of the role involves teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and mentoring Transplant Staff.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent.
• Eligible for state medical license.
• Meet UNOS and OPTN requirements.
• Completed fellowship in nephrology.
• Completed fellowship in transplant nephrology.
• Board certified in internal medicine.
• Certified or eligible in nephrology.
• At least one year of experience in transplant nephrology.
• All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical leadership to the renal transplant program.
• Practice in the areas of Transplant Nephrology and Nephrology.
• Work with the Surgical Director to ensure ongoing clinical operations of the kidney transplant program abiding by UNOS bylaws and CMS regulations.
• Provide guidance in the evaluation and planning for kidney and heart/kidney transplant patients through all phases of transplantation.
• Actively participate in the growth of the program with the leadership team, including Patient Selection Committee, QAPI, strategic planning, and research initiatives.
• Practice and support the Nephrology section's clinical practice needs on a regular basis, including inpatient and outpatient nephrology.
• Be actively involved in the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Mentor and educate Transplant Staff on the care of kidney patients and provide ongoing support.
