About The Position
Medical Director – Primary Care & Community Health Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Lead clinical excellence while shaping the future of community health. Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC), a respected Federally Qualified Health Center in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley , is seeking a Medical Director to guide clinical operations and support provider leadership while maintaining an active clinical practice. This role offers the opportunity to combine direct patient care with meaningful organizational leadership in a mission-driven healthcare organization. Position Overview Leadership / Clinical Mix Approximately 6 clinical FTE 4 leadership FTE The Medical Director partners with executive leadership to support clinical strategy, quality improvement, and provider development while continuing to care for patients in a collaborative team-based environment. Leadership Scope The Medical Director will: Provide clinical leadership for physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants Mentor providers and support recruitment and onboarding Lead initiatives related to clinical quality, population health, and care delivery Collaborate with leadership across medical, behavioral health, dental, and care coordination services Support implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and evidence-based care standards Partner with the CEO and executive team on strategic initiatives Practice Environment Rockbridge Area Health Center provides care through a collaborative, team-based model designed to support high-quality patient care and provider satisfaction. Our clinical environment includes: Integrated care model with behavioral health, dental, and care coordination services Team-based support including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, behavioral health clinicians, nurses, and care coordinators Emphasis on population health, chronic disease management, and preventive care Modern electronic health record system (eClinicalWorks) Supportive leadership committed to provider well-being and quality improvement Limited or shared call responsibilities Focus on quality care and patient relationships rather than high-volume production The Medical Director will practice in an environment that prioritizes collaboration, clinical excellence, and patient-centered care.
Requirements
- Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
- Passion for community health and patient-centered care
- Interest in clinical leadership and provider mentorship
- Commitment to quality improvement and integrated care
Nice To Haves
- Previous leadership experience is welcomed but not required for physicians with strong leadership potential.
