Medical Director of Ambulatory Care

The Medical Director will collaborate with various teams to define priorities, ensure compliance with regulations, and promote cross-departmental collaboration. A key aspect of this role is serving as a physician advisor to IT leadership, guiding system design, configuration, and upgrades with a physician-centric perspective. Additionally, the position includes providing outpatient care, supporting patients through surgical procedures, and educating residents, fellows, and students.
Requirements
- Candidates must be eligible for licensure to practice Medicine in Texas
- Board certified/Eligible in Pediatrics
- Proven leadership in ambulatory or outpatient settings
- Experience in quality improvement, performance measurement, and evidence-based practice.
- Experience collaborating with nursing informatics, clinical informatics, and IT teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead the clinical and strategic direction of ambulatory care services on the Dallas Campus and work in collaboration with the ambulatory care team at the Frisco Campus, with a focus on expanding access, improving quality, and driving innovation in patient care delivery and excellence
- Collaborate with the Ambulatory Care Committee to define priorities for key clinical programs, representing physician perspectives and fostering clinician engagement
- Supervises compliance with organizational policies and procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations for patient care and services, working in partnership with quality assurance and performance improvement(QAPI) to ensure Joint Commission and other accrediting bodies standards are met
- Works with hospital and ambulatory care leadership to define priorities for clinical programs and growth
- Maintains a focus on quality improvement, patient satisfaction, and safety initiatives; leads process changes, workflow modifications, and technology integration
- Promotes cross-departmental collaboration to align on quality, safety, and utilization goals; interfaces with nursing, medical staff, quality/safety, and informatics teams
- Serve as a physician advisor to IT leadership, offering guidance on system priorities, usability, and workflow impact
- Collaborate with physician leaders to understand workflow needs and identify opportunities for improvement
- Facilitate interdisciplinary governance to ensure clinical voices guide system design and enhancements
- Participate in shared governance structures that include nursing, allied health, and operational stakeholders
- Collaborate with Enterprise Applications leaders to ensure physician-centric perspectives are incorporated into system design, configuration, and upgrades
- Participate in technology evaluations, roadmap discussions, and vendor partnerships as a physician / clinical subject‑matter expert
- Offer clinical insight to support nursing automation, documentation, care coordination, and regulatory requirements
- Provide outpatient care in an inter-disciplinary clinical setting
- Support of patients through preoperative planning, execution, and post-operative supportive care for orthopedic surgical procedure(s)
- Collaborate with faculty in Orthopedics, Anesthesia, Neurology and other co-faculty members in Developmental Disabilities on preoperative evaluation in consultation with attending surgeon.
- Help develop pre-surgical assessment clinic
- Provide training/education for residents, fellows, medical and graduate students
