About The Position

The Interdepartmental Centre for Critical Care at University Health Network (UHN) is seeking applications for the position of Medical Director for the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) at Toronto General Hospital (TGH). The Toronto General Hospital MSICU is a quaternary referral centre well-known locally and internationally for its expertise in caring for patients undergoing solid organ transplant, those with acute respiratory failure, and those requiring extracorporeal life support. The unit also provides care for many medical patients, and postoperative care for complex abdominal and thoracic surgery patients. Reporting to the Head, Interdepartmental Centre of Critical Care at UHN/Sinai, the MSICU Medical Director will have their clinical work based at TGH, will oversee critical care operations (in partnership with administrative leadership) at TGH and will have responsibility for championing and supporting critical care program academic output at the local site level. They will work closely with the Unit Manager, the Clinical Director for MSICU, and relevant Program Medical Directors. This position includes membership in the UHN Interdepartmental Centre of Critical Care Executive Committee. This appointment is for a 5-year term, potentially renewable once.

Requirements

  • Hold MD and FRCPC qualifications or equivalent with training in Critical Care Medicine
  • Have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario (CPSO)
  • Eligible for a full-time faculty appointment at the University of Toronto
  • Documented clinical expertise in the areas of focus for the MSICU
  • Demonstrable track record of superior leadership and team-building skills and experience
  • Hold full time faculty status at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor
  • Successfully completed their Continuing Faculty Appointment Review or equivalent probationary review at their current institution
  • Strong academic credentials in research, education and/or quality improvement
