The Medical Director, Global Medical Affairs, Nephrology will provide strategic and tactical support for our nephrology programs under the supervision of the Executive Director, Global Medical Affairs, Nephrology. The ideal candidate will have clinical experience in nephrology and a proven track record of Medical Affairs success in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. This candidate will thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment, be well-organized and able to develop project strategies and execute project details. The candidate must demonstrate strong scientific acumen and must be proficient and agile communicator of scientific concepts and data.

Requirements

• MD, MD/PhD, or PharmD/PhD in related Life Sciences discipline.
• Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered.
• 6+ years of highly relevant work experience required.
• Experience within Medical Affairs in biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry, including experience supporting products in clinical development and/or commercialization preferred.
• Strong understanding of drug development and commercialization concepts.
• Orphan diseases knowledge/experience preferred.
• Pre & Post Launch experience in rare preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to influence important customers, challenge common perceptions and implement medical affairs tools to improve patient care and outcomes.
• Exemplary verbal and written communication skill, including formal presentation skills, and well-developed interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and execute against key objectives and deliverables, on time and within budget.
• Understanding of compliance matters with the ability to interpret appropriately.
• Must possess ethical standards of the highest level and have the knowledge and ability to comply with all relevant ethical, regulatory, and legal standards.
• Resourceful, flexible, and ability to adapt to changing conditions in a fast-paced organization.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage shifting responsibilities in a dynamic, cross-functional teamwork environment.
• Excellent collaboration skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and manage complexity.
• Ability to travel (ASN, ERA-EDTA, NKF, KOL symposiums, etc.) and manage a rigorous schedule which may require some evenings and weekend availability (anticipated travel up to 40%)
• All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.

Responsibilities

• Execution of Sparsentan medical affairs tactics including but not limited to: Leading interactions and collaboration with external experts
• Development and delivery of scientific engagement activities including advisory boards
• Support of medical led scientific meetings e.g RKD Scientific Summit
• Collaboration with scientific communication team to support scientific messaging and scientific content including: Publication planning, Medical education activities, Congress Planning
• Collaboration with field medical partners to support: External expert interactions, Evidence generation activities, Team training needs to ensure alignment with current medical strategy and ensure team are up to date with emerging evidence
• Lead Medical Affairs competitive intelligence activities, assess the implications of emerging data and changes in the treatment landscape, and communicate actionable recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
• Represent Medical Affairs at Medical Review Committee & Promotional Review Committee to ensure key documentation is scientifically accurate.
• Support Executive Medical Director with commercial and payor related activities.
• Support Executive Medical Director with annual Medical Strategic planning and life cycle management plans.
• Partner with Strategy & Operations to ensure implemented processes and systems are effective for the Nephrology Therapeutic Area.
• Drive corporate efficiency through effective vendor and budget management.
• Additional duties assigned as needed.
