About The Position

Coachella Valley Anesthesia is seeking an accomplished, forward-thinking anesthesiologist to serve as Medical Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at Desert Regional Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center serving the Coachella Valley. This is an exceptional leadership opportunity for a physician who is passionate about clinical excellence, physician engagement, and graduate medical education. The Medical Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for a high-performing anesthesia department while helping shape the future of anesthesiology at Desert Regional Medical Center. A unique aspect of this position is the opportunity to develop and launch a new Anesthesiology Residency Program. Upon ACGME program approval, the Medical Director will also serve as the Residency Program Director, creating a lasting educational legacy for future anesthesiologists. Working closely with hospital administration, surgeons, nursing leadership, and executive leadership, this individual will serve as the face of Coachella Valley Anesthesia within the hospital and help advance quality, patient safety, physician engagement, and long-term departmental growth.

Requirements

• Active, unrestricted California Medical License.
• Board Certification in Anesthesiology.
• Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience as a practicing anesthesiologist.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive physician leadership experience, such as Medical Director, Department Chair, Associate Medical Director, or comparable leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong collaborative relationships with physicians, hospital leadership, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in graduate medical education, residency leadership, or residency program development is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the Department of Anesthesiology.
• Foster collaborative relationships with hospital administration, surgeons, nursing leadership, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Develop, implement, and oversee a new Anesthesiology Residency Program and serve as Residency Program Director upon program approval.
• Mentor anesthesiologists, CRNAs, residents, and future physician leaders.
• Promote a culture of clinical excellence, patient safety, quality improvement, professionalism, and accountability.
• Lead physician recruitment, retention, provider engagement, and professional development initiatives.
• Represent Coachella Valley Anesthesia on hospital committees, medical staff leadership, and community partnerships.
• Collaborate with executive leadership on departmental strategy, operational performance, growth, and long-term planning.
