About The Position
Reporting to the Manager and Supervisor of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department and in accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, this position performs a series of detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and medical devices for the operating room and various areas of the hospital. In addition, this position performs related clerical duties and record keeping.
Requirements
- Grade 12
- Successful completion of an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program (course with practicum preferred)
- Knowledge of Infection Control measures and Routine Practices
- Demonstrated organizational skills and a high degree of initiative and self-motivation
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and comprehension skills
- Critical thinking skills to aid with problem solving
- An aptitude for tasks requiring manual dexterity and technical skill
- Computer experience
- Repetitive bending, lifting, pushing and pulling carts
- Constant standing and walking
- Exposure to chemicals, blood and body fluids and extreme heat and humidity as well as loud noise
Nice To Haves
- Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control
- Membership with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia
- Previous experience working in an MDR setting
- Experience operating MDR related equipment
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
