About The Position

Reporting to the Manager and Supervisor of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department, this position performs detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing, and distribution of medical and/or surgical supplies and medical devices for the operating room and various hospital areas. The role also includes performing related clerical duties and record keeping.

Requirements

Grade 12
Successful completion of an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program (course with practicum preferred)
Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control preferred
Membership with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia preferred
Previous experience working in an MDR setting preferred
Experience operating MDR related equipment
Knowledge of Infection Control measures and Routine Practices
Demonstrated organizational skills and a high degree of initiative and self-motivation
Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and comprehension skills
Critical thinking skills to aid with problem solving
An aptitude for tasks requiring manual dexterity and technical skill
Computer experience
Required to carry up to a maximum of 30 pounds.
Position includes repetitive bending, lifting, pushing and pulling carts.
Constant standing and walking.
Exposure to chemicals, blood and body fluids and extreme heat and humidity as well as loud noise
Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
A skills test will be included as part of the selection process

Nice To Haves

Currently enrolled in an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program or commit to completing this program at their own expense within the first 12 months of employment (must submit proof of course enrollment before being hired into the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician in Training position) - considered if no applicants have completed the program.
Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control
Membership with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia
Previous experience working in an MDR setting
Competencies in other languages, French preferred
