Medical Data Analyst / Outpatient Coder In this role the Medical Data Analyst performs diagnostic and procedural coding for inpatients, ambulatory surgery and outpatients. Utilizing medical record, you’ll review, abstract and apply appropriate diagnostic coding and APC assignment of outpatient and ambulatory surgery patient records according to coding guidelines as applicable according to patient type. You’ll review and analyze the medical record to accurately assign the responsible Attending Physician and Clinical Service in accordance with established guidelines and communicate with physicians as appropriate to clarify documentation as related to APC or coding assignment. You’ll prepare abstract information in accordance with mandated hospital, state, and federal registry programs and correct and resubmit data from abstracts as identified through edit reports from said registries. This is a full time hybrid position, 5 days a week. located at our Midtown Manhattan Corporate Office.

Requirements

  • College level course in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • 2-3 years medical record experience essential, preferably in an acute care, computerized environment
  • 1-2 years demonstrated coding experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-10CM, HCPCS, and applicable APR/DRG grouper coding schemes
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with clinical information systems for accessing health information in an electronic environment
  • All roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
  • NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.
