About The Position

The Public Health and Safety Division (PHSD) leads public health efforts in Montana and provides state-level coordination of key public health services to local and tribal public health agencies. The Division serves a diverse group of customers and stakeholders while working to promote healthy lifestyles and protect the health of Montanans. The PHSD is committed to serving all customers and stakeholders with excellence and is a nationally accredited state health department through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). The milestone accomplishment is official recognition that the PHSD meets or exceeds the rigorous national standards established by PHAB. The Medical Countermeasure (MCM) Coordinator oversees Montana’s Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), CHEMPACK, and Cities Readiness Initiative programs and serves as the primary point of contact for CRI jurisdictions, leading the development, management, and evaluation of all related deliverables. This position coordinates statewide medical countermeasure planning, participates in regional stockpiling and readiness meetings, and provides education and training on CHEMPACK operations to partners across the state. The MCM Coordinator works closely with PHEP staff and response partners to strengthen medical countermeasure readiness and may lead logistics functions during public health emergency responses, ensuring these capabilities are effectively integrated into Montana’s preparedness and response system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, emergency management, public administration, homeland security, or related field
  • Two years of job-related experience in health data systems or health education.
  • Incident Command System (ICS) 100 or 200 Certifications
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, coordination of people, engaging stakeholder, and quality improvement
  • Knowledge of the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP).
  • Knowledge in disaster planning and Incident Command System (ICS) principles.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including public speaking.
  • Ability to facilitate groups and lead teams toward organization goals.
  • Ability to research and develop training and material and program content.
  • Ability and analyze and interpret data and provide solutions.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment as necessary to complete the essential functions including work processing, database, e-mail, internet, and other computer programs.

  • 1 year experience working in public health at a local or tribal level is preferred, but not required
