About The Position

This is a student hourly position for a Medical Counselor focused on 'Social Media as Art' for a one-week camp from August 10-14, 2026. The role involves engaging campers, ensuring a positive experience, answering questions about UWSP, completing required paperwork and trainings, enforcing camp rules, maintaining camper headcounts, escorting campers, assisting instructors, maintaining a safe and positive environment, and acting as a role model. The position also requires helping to recruit future students and demonstrating a prevention mindset for camper safety. Additional duties may be assigned by the program manager and camp director. Specific training for youth policy, UWSP Conferences and Events, and medical counselor requirements (including administering medications via CampDoc) are mandatory. Applicants must pass a Criminal Background Check with Position of Trust for Vulnerable Populations and a Misconduct Reference Check.

Requirements

  • Fulfill medical counselor training requirements.
  • Administer according to CampDoc and log any needed medications accurately during camp.
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check with Position of Trust for Vulnerable Populations and Misconduct Reference Check.
  • Must complete required Volunteers Matter training.
  • Excellent organization, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and team oriented.
  • Students must also complete UWSP Conferences and Events training prior to the start of camp.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5

Nice To Haves

  • Have prior experience working with and supervising youth.
  • Possess a solid knowledge of UWSP Campus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Engage all campers energetically and enthusiastically throughout the entire camp.
  • Ensure all campers have a positive experience and answer questions about attending UWSP.
  • Complete all required hiring paperwork and trainings.
  • Follow rules as outlined in the UWSP counselor expectations.
  • Understand and enforce camp rules and policies.
  • Maintain head counts of assigned campers.
  • Inform camp director if a camper is missing.
  • Escort assigned campers to all areas of activity (classes, tours, meals, social activities).
  • Assist instructor in classroom as requested by instructor(s).
  • Help maintain a safe and positive camp experience for all attendees.
  • Work collaboratively with other counselors and camp staff.
  • Be a role model – encourage integrity, confidence, and teamwork.
  • Help recruit and welcome future students, families, and counselors to UWSP.
  • Demonstrate a prevention mind set in keeping campers safe during camp.
