About The Position

The Medical Collector - Insurance AR - is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement by working directly with insurance companies, government payers, and patients. This role focuses on resolving outstanding balances, managing insurance aging, and maintaining clear documentation to support revenue cycle operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in healthcare collections and billing processes.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of 2+ years of experience in healthcare collections and/or medical billing
Working knowledge of procedure and diagnosis coding
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA and company policies
Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English

Nice To Haves

Experience with Athena (Athenahealth) medical billing system preferred

Responsibilities

Manage and work assigned insurance aging reports to resolve outstanding claims
Contact insurance companies regarding past-due balances and follow up on unpaid claims
Research, re-file, and resolve denied or delayed claims to ensure maximum reimbursement
Communicate with insurance carriers to determine reasons for payment delays
File appeals with insurance companies as needed
Post non-payments, adjustments, and denials accurately in the system
Respond to patient inquiries regarding account balances and billing questions
Document all communications with insurance companies and patients thoroughly
Sort, scan, and file correspondence related to claims and billing
