Medical Coding Specialist
About The Position
Reno Orthopedic Center (ROC) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Medical Coding Specialist to ensure accurate, high-volume medical and surgical coding, same-day charges, and compliant billing to support efficient patient care at their Main location. ROC is a physician-owned organization with a fully integrated musculoskeletal health campus, emphasizing a patient-first mindset, assuming good intent, owning success, continuous learning, and kindness. Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes as applied to patient charts and claims.
- One year of experience performing customer service duties.
- Experience communicating effectively and professionally with various levels of employees, outside entities and customers.
- Experience deescalating tense or sensitive conversations with customers/clients/etc.
- Experience reviewing work and checking for errors to ensure accuracy.
Nice To Haves
- Associate's degree in health information management.
- Experience reviewing and correcting patient billing statements or claims.
Responsibilities
- Review and accurately code high-volume medical and surgical patient encounters each day, assigning correct CPT and ICD-10 codes based on documented visits and procedures.
- Maintain same-day charge entry.
- Document any chart or claim corrections.
- Keep error rates within established standards.
- Work closely with clinical staff to clarify documentation.
- Update insurance and demographic information.
- Audit insurance denials to support clean claims and timely reimbursement.
- For surgical cases, communicate with vendors regarding implants, manage inventory and purchase orders, and enter related charges into the practice management system to ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient billing operations.
