About The Position

This position is for a clinically competent, certified professional Medical Assistant (MA) who will support nursing and provider staff in delivering high-quality patient care. The MA will perform clinical tasks such as vital sign measurement, sample collection, patient preparation, and patient education, as well as administrative duties including scheduling and record-keeping. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate, confidential, up-to-date, and legible records, ensuring all care provided is documented, and cultivating a climate of trust and compassion for patients. The MA will collaborate with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, clinical staff, and nonclinical staff to form an efficient and high-performing medical team. The role requires a professionally knowledgeable, responsible, and accountable individual who can work efficiently, quickly, and thoroughly, encouraging teamwork and communicating effectively. The MA will utilize leadership and professional development skills to assure quality patient care, act as a role model, and assist in training clinical support staff. All duties must be performed in strict compliance with University Health Services (UHS) policies and procedures, as well as all applicable federal, state, local, and regulatory agencies. The MA must adhere to ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards, assist in updating protocols, and uphold patient confidentiality. Adherence to UHS productivity standards and meeting key performance indicators are also required, along with demonstrating regular and punctual attendance. The role involves physical demands such as prolonged standing, walking, sitting, and dealing with stressful situations, with the ability to lift at least 60lbs, reach, pull, push, bend, stoop, and kneel, and good manual dexterity for using common office and medical equipment. The MA must follow current guidelines for personal protective equipment to protect against potential exposure to infectious materials and biohazards. Other related clinical, administrative, or special tasks may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date).
  • Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT), or equivalent certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • One year of clinical experience.

  • Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice as requested.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  • Adhere to UHS productivity standards and meet at least the minimum requirement of key performance indicators (KPIs) as determined by leadership annually.
  • Demonstrate a regular and punctual attendance pattern.
  • Follow current guidelines for use of personal protective equipment to protect staff and others from potential exposure to infectious materials, substances, and biohazards including HIV, Hepatitis, latex etc.
  • Perform all other related clinical tasks, administrative tasks, or special tasks as required.
  • Readily accept other responsibilities and participate in other activities and committees as assigned.
