About The Position

University Health Services (UHS) is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to help deliver high-quality clinical services to our campus community. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in ensuring a welcoming, efficient, and compassionate environment. This role is responsible for providing intake services, assisting clinicians with treatments, completing procedures as ordered, and accurately entering information into the electronic health record (EHR). The position supports patient care by performing clinical tasks, maintaining medical records, and ensuring a safe and organized environment.

Requirements

  • General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School (HS)
  • 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
  • Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants
  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
  • Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Provide intake services and assist clinicians with treatments and procedures as ordered.
  • Enter patient information into the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Record vital signs, allergy information, and perform medication reconciliation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  • Prepare exam rooms and patients for procedures.
  • Assist clinicians with various examinations and procedures; set up instruments and supplies as needed.
  • Dispose of biohazard waste in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Perform basic clinical tests (e.g., ECGs), wound dressing, and suture or staple removal.
  • Administer medications only if delegated and competency is verified.
  • Screen patient vitals and document collected information in the EHR.
  • Evaluate patient’s overall wellbeing; report findings and areas of concern to medical staff.
  • Provide patient education on topics such as current symptoms, preventative health practices, medication usage, and medical procedures/tests.
  • Monitor and maintain departmental and medication supply needs.
  • Assist nursing and medical staff with tasks such as cleaning and stocking exam rooms.
  • Explain various treatments and procedures to patients in a clear and compassionate manner.
