About The Position

The Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting daily clinical operations at each of Care New England’s primary care and specialty practices by delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Reporting to a practice leader and working under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers, this position is responsible for performing a range of clinical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth patient flow and effective care delivery. The Medical Assistant fosters a compassionate, well-organized, and efficient environment that enhances the experience for both patients and healthcare teams.

Requirements

  • Completion of a medical assistant training program is preferred, and a minimum of one year of job-related experience is required.
  • Must be able to complete all competencies (EKG, vaccination administration, vital signs, med reconciliation, Holter monitors, etc.) required for their assigned practice.
  • Prior experience with an electronic medical record system is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in vital signs assessment, administering injections, performing phlebotomy, conducting lab tests, and operating medical equipment.
  • Skilled in using EHR systems, including EPIC, for accurate and timely documentation.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to deliver compassionate care, educate patients, and collaborate effectively with healthcare teams.
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities in fast-paced settings with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledgeable in medical terminology, human anatomy, infection control, HIPAA regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Adaptable to changing environments, physically capable, and committed to ongoing professional development.
  • Performs rooming procedures such as patient identification, medication reconciliation, history intake, and vital signs documentation.
  • Administers oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications as ordered, and documents accordingly.
  • Supports clinical procedures including EKGs, immunizations, wound care, and specimen collection.
  • Assists providers by preparing instruments and maintaining protocol adherence, including time-out procedures for patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Performs rooming procedures, including patient identification, vital signs, medication reconciliation, history intake, and documentation in EPIC.
  • Assists with procedures such as EKGs, immunizations, wound care, specimen collection, and minor office interventions; prepares instruments and ensures compliance with time-out protocols. May administer oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications as needed.
  • Monitors and records vital signs including blood pressure, height, weight, pulse, respirations, temperature, and vision screenings.
  • Obtains prior authorizations for imaging studies and prescribed medications.
  • Prepares charts by reviewing prior documentation, scanning external records, and verifying completeness.
  • Follows infection control protocols through routine disinfection, hand hygiene, and safe handling of medical equipment.
  • Coordinates follow-up appointments, reviews procedure consents with patients, and ensures all paperwork is properly completed and filed.
  • Maintains inventory of medical supplies, reports equipment issues, and ensures clinical areas are stocked and ready.
  • Protects patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA and institutional policies.
  • Exhibits professionalism, teamwork, and a patient-centered approach in all interactions.
  • May be asked to float to another CNEMG location as needed to support staffing needs.
  • Perform all duties as assigned.
