The Medical Assistant facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care by collecting and sharing pertinent information and acting on provider directives. The role is responsible for preparing patients for visits, which includes rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, and accurate data entry into the EMR. The Medical Assistant also completes tasks associated with company initiatives like PROs and Quality Payment Programs, maintains exam room standards by restocking and cleaning, and monitors biohazard and sharps containers. Additionally, the role assists the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms, retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours, and prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits by verifying outstanding testing results, confirming patient appropriateness for the provider, and noting necessary imaging, DME, or casting prior to the visit. The Medical Assistant scans clinical documents into the EMR, prints clinic schedules, ensures patients receive indicated education, manages provider EMR desktops, acts as a PTO Buddy, and creates a positive patient experience while maintaining a HIPAA-compliant environment and a clean workspace.
