About The Position

The Center for Orthopedic Research and Education (CORE) is seeking a Medical Assistant. This role is crucial in facilitating communication between patients and providers, preparing patients for visits, and managing various administrative and clinical tasks within the EMR system.

Requirements

  • Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate; OR, Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
  • Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic.
  • Experience with orthopedics.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate communication between the patient and the provider during patient care by collecting and sharing pertinent information and acting on provider directives.
  • Prepare patients for visits by rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, setting up for procedures, preparing for injections, and accurate data entry into EMR.
  • Complete tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs and Quality Payment Programs.
  • Maintain exam room standards, including restocking at the end of each clinic day and cleaning rooms and tables as needed during and at the end of each day.
  • Monitor and replace biohazard and sharps containers as needed.
  • Assist the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (e.g., work release, FMLA).
  • Retrieve and respond to voicemails within 24 business hours and document actions in EMR.
  • Prepare patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service.
  • Verify outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirm patient appropriateness for the provider (body part and/or insurance), and note imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service.
  • Scan clinical documents into EMR.
  • Print clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
  • Ensure patients receive education as indicated by the provider.
  • Manage EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
  • Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan.
  • Create and promote a positive patient experience.
  • Maintain a HIPAA compliant environment.
  • Maintain a clean workspace.
