About The Position

Our practice is housed in Cooley Dickinson's multispecialty medical facility located at 15 Atwood Drive, Suite 201 in Northampton, MA. As a Family Medicine office, Oxbow offers comprehensive primary care services to patients of all ages, from infants to adults. With providers who have pursued specialties in addition to board certifications in Family Medicine, the practice has additional expertise in prenatal care, obstetrics and birth, pediatrics, and LGBTQ care. We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to support the practice onsite, Monday through Friday 7:30am-4:00pm. As true partners to our nurses and providers, our Medical Assistants get the opportunity to work autonomously to the top of their education/certification while also functioning as part of the collaborative team. The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required

Nice To Haves

Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred
Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Various Issuers preferred
Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Various Issuers preferred
certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider (for immunizations)

Responsibilities

Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
