About The Position

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the clinic manager and providing patient care consistent with the mission of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation under the direct supervision and responsibility of a physician. The MA acts as the liaison to physicians to assure patient satisfaction with their visit. This position is responsible for patient flow management, patient safety, performing phlebotomy, Point of Care testing, assisting in minor procedures, processing lab specimens and the safe operation of medical equipment. The MA maintains and orders the clinical and non-clinical supplies for their area. The Medical Assistant addresses patient questions/concerns using physician protocols. This position demands a high level of cultural competency of the unique needs of the LGBTQIA++ community, communities of color, and other marginalized populations.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of medical assistant program.
  • Medical Assistant certification is required.
  • BLS Phlebotomy Certified
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a medical assistant in an outpatient setting is required.
  • Must be comfortable with and experience in interacting with the public and patients with special needs.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a positive attitude and ability to organize information for quick retrieval
  • Computer skills, medical terminology, and experience with office assessments necessary.
  • Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Three or more years of experience in a physician office, hospital or ambulatory care facility as a Certified Medical Assistant
  • Experience managing billing systems and preparing audits
  • The employee is required to maintain and expand his/her knowledge of HIV/AIDS, treatments and current requirements and eligibility for service entitlement programs

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and ensures proper identification by confirming name, and date of birth.
  • Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
  • Collects, communicates and documents accurate patient information/data and maintaining medical records according to regulatory standards and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Handles and administers all medications according to regulatory standards and organizational policy and procedure.
  • Directly assists physicians in the performance of medical/surgical procedures as required and directed.
  • Maintains required continuing education credits to remain current certification
  • Performs and tracks vaccinations through the ASN program to ensure patients are uninsured.
  • Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements
  • Perform other duties as directed.
