About The Position

Austin Regional Clinic (ARC) is a large professional medical group in Central Texas with over 35 locations and a growing presence. They have been recognized as a top Central Texas employer by their employees for over 15 years. The Medical Assistant role supports provider practice by assisting with direct patient care, including patient call backs and refill requests. Responsibilities may include performing diagnostic testing, maintaining supply inventory, and cleaning/maintaining medical equipment. All duties are to be performed in compliance with organizational standards, maintaining confidentiality, and promoting the mission and philosophy of ARC.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Must meet one of the following: Medical Assistant experience, or CNA/EMT/PCT (or other comparable experience) providing direct patient care beyond Activities of Daily Living, including experience taking manual vitals and giving medications and/or injections, or Graduate of a medical assistant program.
Ability to administer medications & injections within scope of position within 90 days of hire.

Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required.

Nice To Haves

Six (6) months or more experience as a Medical Assistant.
Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs, and prepares patients for provider examination.
Administers medication under physician’s direction and within the scope of practice.
Performs diagnostic testing such as EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings and documents in EPIC EMR.
Reviews Provider refill in basket and assists with daily medication refill requests using the ARC refill protocol.
Reviews EPIC triage call in basket for callbacks.
Reviews result notes in basket and calls/informs patients of normal lab results.
Ensures rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and within expiration dates.
Cleans patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of dirty laundry.
Ensures laundry cart is stocked with fresh linens on a daily basis.
Follows directions from nursing team leader or supervisor.
Follows clinic protocols.
Provides patients with educational materials as directed.
Adheres to all company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and Code of Conduct.
Maintains regular and dependable attendance.
Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company.
Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.
Answers incoming phone calls for nursing triage, determining acuity and forwarding to appropriate staff if clinical intervention is required.
Handles various patient inquiries including ADD symptoms/Questions, Medication Refill requests, Referral questions, requests for copies of lab or immunization records, requests for lab releasing to my chart, lab results if signed off by provider, and general calls from pharmacies and medication not covered by insurance.
Utilizes smart phrases when taking phone messages and routing directly to the provider.
Posts patient test results through the patient’s mychart portal.
Refills medication following the ARC refill protocols.
May assist providers with procedures by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam.
Obtains applicable consents and completes all necessary documentation in EPIC EMR.
May maintain equipment (autoclaves, sterilizes, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc.).
Performs other duties within the scope of unlicensed personnel as assigned.
