About The Position

At The Portland Clinic our mission is to be a welcoming, inclusive environment for our patients and the communities we serve. We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Assistant for a fast-paced surgeon's office. The role involves supporting multiple procedures as well as general medical assistant duties. This position is designed to outline essential functions and position requirements, focusing on assisting licensed independent practitioners in patient treatment and management, providing patient comfort and support, and collaborating with the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire, with proof issued within 120 days of hire.
  • OR Current Oregon Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license (basic or advance) and national EMT registration with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
  • Certification must remain active once obtained.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination or treatment by setting up the room, taking vital signs, and documenting in the EHR.
  • Prioritize and communicate patient concerns, making decisions regarding communication and coordination with clinicians.
  • Assist with diagnostic and/or surgical procedures and exams, including setup, EKGs, PFT/spirometry, wound care, suture/staple removal, nebulizer treatments, and administering vaccinations.
  • Clean exam and procedure rooms according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Manage scheduling, computer data entry, and In Basket tasks, including patient callbacks, MyChart messages, prescription requests, results, referrals, prior authorizations, and phone calls, while adhering to TPC and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for autoclaving following OSHA and TPC guidelines, using appropriate PPE.
  • Clean and organize shared work areas, maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Participate as an active care team member in a patient-centered medical home.
  • Assist and train others as needed, working under the general supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
  • Attend nursing meetings and in-services, and participate in clinic committees.
  • Assist or float to other departments as requested.
  • Comply with HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
  • Precept and orient new/transferring staff and students.
  • Serve as a resource for other departments, peers, and supervisors.
  • Communicate with interdisciplinary team members to resolve concerns.
  • Participate in committees and branch nursing meetings.
  • Participate in and/or lead daily huddles.
  • Resolve employee/patient concerns and escalate to Lead and/or Supervisor when appropriate.
  • Provide coverage for lunch, breaks, and absences as needed.
  • Navigate and function in Alert IIS, the state’s immunization management system.
  • Function as a mentor and role model.
  • Maintain professional conduct with customers and the public.
  • Work cooperatively with management, coworkers, customers, and vendors.
  • Abide by company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular, in-person work attendance and punctuality.
