About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on the area of specialty when providing patient care. This full-time position involves rotating 12-hour shifts, including every other weekend, and is eligible for a sign-on bonus based on eligibility. The role requires the ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in computer skills including electronic medical records systems. The MA will demonstrate customer service skills to support a positive patient experience and will operate all necessary equipment to perform the job. The position requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, understanding the principles of growth and development over the life span and assessing data reflective of the patient's status to provide age-specific care.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or may have completed structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214 in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT.
Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members and physicians.
Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems.
Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.
Must sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance.
Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills.
Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids on a frequent basis.
Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.

Responsibilities

Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked.
May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
May serve as a role champion or on a committee.
