About The Position

This is a full-time, 36-hour position, working 4 days a week, supporting the Specialty Clinic and Physician Practices. It is an hourly, non-exempt, union position. The role provides medical assisting to medical providers and clinical support to the office manager. Key expectations include accuracy, organizational skills, independence, excellent verbal and written communication, computer competency, sound judgment, and a strong customer service approach.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program.
  • If not nationally certified (AMT, RMA, NCMA or CCMA), must obtain Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) within 6 months of hire.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients and obtain demographic and insurance information accurately.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and collect patient co-pays according to the Collection policy.
  • Attempt collection from self-pay patients and refer them to the financial counselor for charity care assessment.
  • Maintain an error rate of 5% or less over a 90-day average and complete day-end reviews before ending shift.
  • Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, obtain vital signs and weight, and record chief complaint.
  • Review medication lists, allergies, and update medical history.
  • Inform providers of patient's meaningful use needs (e.g., mammogram, eye exam).
  • Assist providers in examinations and with immunizations.
  • Provide patient instructions as directed by the provider.
  • Ensure cleanliness of exam rooms after patient visits and practice Standard Precautions.
  • Provide telephone support using appropriate techniques.
  • Receive and process messages accurately and promptly, screening urgent calls and keeping providers informed.
  • Maintain, reorder, and stock clinic supplies.
  • Ensure supplies and medications are stored correctly and check for outdates.
  • Transport instruments in Biohazard containers for reprocessing.
  • Notify the secretary of diagnostic studies and referrals as requested by the provider.
  • Assist the secretary with scheduling knowledge if necessary.
  • Maintain clinical patient records and review patient records before scheduled visits.
  • Participate in prescription renewals for patients.
  • Participate in gathering data for quality measures.
  • Ensure all equipment is in proper working order and included in the Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Annually review practice policies and procedures and propose changes.
  • Actively participate in the Hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program, support department-specific initiatives, recommend process improvements, and report quality issues.
  • Participate in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills, and respond to real-life disaster/emergency events within professional and personal ability.
