About The Position
The Medical Assistant (MA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for providing patient care under the direction of a physician or another healthcare provider. The MA works to facilitate clinic workflow, assist patients, and ensure safe, seamless delivery of care for each patient. The CU Medicine Weight Management Clinic is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO, at the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center. Our clinic specializes in providing physician-directed weight management services for patients with overweight and obesity by utilizing pharmacological and behavioral interventions. Our team of medical providers, registered dietitians, and clinical psychologists supports patients through their weight loss journeys.
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant program OR one year of medical assistant work experience.
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
- One year of medical assistant work experience.
- Current CMA certification (i.e., AAMA, NCCT).
- Substitution (All Levels): A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship. We are unable to provide work visa sponsorship or employment authorization for this position now or in the future.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross healthcare provider-level CPR certification.
- Maintains all required licensure and certifications for the position.
- Must be able to work in-person.
- Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.
- Strong organizational and personal skills.
- Strong medical terminology knowledge and skills.
- Strong knowledge of CPT & ICD-10 procedures.
- Strong knowledge of value-based care and risk-based coding procedures in Primary Care.
- Strong knowledge of medication and injection procedures.
- Ability to safely administer a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
- Ability to use various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures.
- Ability to accurately take and record vital signs.
- Ability to accurately reconcile patient medications.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.

Responsibilities
- Accurately rooms patients, obtains and records vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care.
- Accurately processes and records telephone messages in patient medical records and according to policy.
- Assists in preparing prescription refills for providers according to policy.
- Maintains patient confidentiality, written and verbal.
- Communicates effectively and in an attentive manner with every patient encounter.
- Verifies the patient’s understanding of the purpose of the visit.
- Accurately documents all care provided and procedures performed within the patient’s medical record.
