About The Position

The Medical Assistant performs foundational clinical duties under direction while developing proficiency in clinic workflows, service line expectations, and electronic medical record (EMR) processes. This role focuses on accuracy, consistency, and safe patient care. The Medical Assistant will complete clinical intake requirements, administer immunizations, collect patient specimens, and follow clinical policies and procedures. They will utilize the EMR for assigned tasks, use standard medical terminology, and demonstrate attention to detail. Effective communication with patients, providers, and team members is essential, as is accepting feedback and managing assigned tasks with basic time-management and prioritization skills. The role involves identifying and escalating patient concerns, demonstrating patient-centered interactions, and potentially floating within the clinic. The Medical Assistant will support Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home and contribute to the goals of the “Quintuple Aim” of healthcare reform. This role requires embodying personal character qualities such as integrity, adaptability, sound judgment, and being a result-oriented problem solver.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the clinical intake requirements, including measuring and recording patient-specific information such as height, weight, respiration, pulse, blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry (Sp02), and head circumference as appropriate, documenting accurately in the EMR.
  • Administer immunizations under provider direction, including providing Vaccine Information Statements (VIS), updating OSIIS, and documenting accurately in the EMR.
  • Collect patient specimens (e.g., throat and nasal swabs) following established protocols.
  • Follow clinical policies, procedures, and standards to support patient safety, accuracy, and efficient clinic flow.
  • Utilize the EMR to complete assigned tasks accurately and timely.
  • Use standard medical terminology and medication references as required for assigned duties.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation, specimen handling, and task completion.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and team members using appropriate written, verbal, and non-verbal communication.
  • Accept feedback and incorporate coaching to improve performance and consistency.
  • Manage assigned tasks using basic time-management and prioritization skills.
  • Identify patient concerns or issues and escalate appropriately.
  • Demonstrate respectful, patient-centered interactions that value patient perspectives.
  • May be required to float within the clinic to maintain business continuity.
