The Medical Assistant will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on the area of specialty when providing patient care. This role involves performing rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.). The Medical Assistant will assist the provider with or perform procedures as ordered. Lab-related duties include venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. The role also includes performing Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order and completing Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards. Medications and vaccines will be administered safely following the rights of medication administration. Other duties may include medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals. The Medical Assistant will demonstrate effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation. Maintaining a clean work environment, ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, and ensuring equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are appropriately stocked are key responsibilities. The role may also assist with training and onboarding of other teammates and may serve as a role champion or on a committee. The Medical Assistant must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
