The MA is responsible for the care of patients and to achieve the goals of the facility as directed by the Physician/Medical Provider. This role ensures patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently, from greeting patients and escorting them to a room, to initiating the registration process. The MA will measure vital signs, record information on the chart/EMR, explain treatment procedures, and prepare patients and exam rooms for examinations. They will assist the Physician/Medical Provider with procedures and maintain a clean and safe environment, including cleaning and sterilizing instruments and equipment. The MA will also assist in maintaining adequate levels of supplies and instruments. Key responsibilities include performing diagnostic tests such as eye exams, electrocardiographs, pulse oximetry, peak flow, spirometry, and inhalation treatments. They will also perform CLIA-waived lab tests, and collect, label, and process specimens for send-out. Additionally, the MA will perform DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screens with proper chain of custody and prepare them for shipment. Other duties include removing sutures/staples and changing dressings. The role requires adherence to established facility safety requirements and procedures, demonstrating safe operation of equipment, and reporting unsafe situations. The MA is expected to value continuing education for professional growth and participate in Quality Improvement and mandatory training programs.
