Medical Assistant - Outpatient Otolaryngology Clinic
About The Position
The Medical Assistant will work in the Outpatient Otolaryngology Clinic at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital’s Scully-Welsh Cancer Center in Vero Beach, Florida. The role supports otolaryngology care for conditions involving the ears, nose, throat, neck, and sinuses, helping create a welcoming and comfortable environment for patients, families, and visitors. The caregiver collaborates with clinic staff and assists with gathering patient information, monitoring patients, administrative tasks, and other activities that contribute to health outcomes. The position also offers opportunities to enhance skills, gain hands-on experience, and explore advanced positions at Cleveland Clinic. The schedule is a day shift, either 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. or 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Requirements
- Graduate from an approved Medical Assisting program.
- Military training as a hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.
- Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within the new-hire period.
- Complete a clinical externship or have extensive clinical experience.
- Demonstrate current clinical proficiency.
Nice To Haves
- Medical Assisting certification (CMA, NCMA, or CCMA).
- Successful completion of a Cleveland Clinic externship.
Responsibilities
- Assist with screenings and treatments by gathering and updating health-maintenance information, identifying medication changes, updating allergy information, collecting specimens, performing tests, and documenting patient care.
- Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition.
- Administer specific medications under the direction of the provider.
- Maintain equipment, medical supplies, and examination areas.
- Perform administrative and clerical duties, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration.
- Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.
