About The Position

A podiatry medical assistant specializes in ankle and foot care and is crucial for the efficient operation of the medical office. Their responsibilities include managing supplies, maintaining exam rooms, sterilizing equipment, and handling administrative tasks such as patient greeting, phone answering, data entry, and appointment scheduling. They also provide support to front office staff and perform manual insurance verifications. Additional duties may be assigned by management.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with patients and clinic staff.
Ability to sit for at least an hour at a time.
Ability to stand and walk for up to 20 minutes at a time.
Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 5-10 lbs.
Ability to utilize the computer and keyboard for long periods of time.
Ability to type.
Ability to verbally communicate with patients and co-workers.
Occasional lifting up to 30lbs.
Ability to assist patients in and out of the patient chair with support from other staff members.
Ability to maneuver and unpack boxes weighing over 50 pounds.
Ability to retrieve and assemble materials for casting, including large basins of warmed water.
Ability to lift basins weighing 20 pounds when full.
Ability to reach overhead or under counter storage shelving/racks.
Ability to aid foot positioning by kneeling or stooping.
Ability to bend down and lift X-ray cassettes without dropping them.
Ability to assist patients on and off treatment chairs.
Ability to assist in moving limbs.
Ability to remove and replace shoes and boots.
Ability to sit on the floor to remove shoes and socks or perform nail debridements while leaning, stooping or sitting on the ground.
Ability to hold a limb in position for casting and bandage application.
Ability to lean over a sink and reach into a large basin while handling instruments.
Ability to lift a sterilization tray weighing in excess of 10 pounds.
Ability to move 15-pound metal mayo stands into and out of rooms.
Ability to open and assemble sterile instrument packs.
Ability to pass medications, cut sutures, provide saline flushes, and retrieve specimens.
Ability to apply bandages while a patient remains still.
Ability to perform routine nail debridements under physician supervision.
Ability to remove elongated or fungal toenail material with manual instrumentation and motorized grinders.
Ability to cleanse debris.
Ability to draw and deliver medications to treatment rooms.
Ability to reach overhead into and out of lockable cabinets.
Precision required for medication draws.
Ability to adequately and accurately capture chief complaints, pertinent histories, medication lists, and vitals.
Ability to record information in a timely manner.
Ability to reach around a patient's arm to assemble blood pressure cuffs.
Ability to wipe down chairs, counters, and touched items with sanitizer.
Ability to remove trash from rooms and replace bags.
Ability to collect trash and bring it to an on-site dumpster.

Nice To Haves

At least one (1) year of experience preferred.
Medical Assistant Certification is preferred.
Epic experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Ordering, sorting, and storing supplies, and restocking exam rooms.
Cleaning exam areas, setting up instruments and equipment, and cleaning the sterilizer.
Greeting patients, answering office phones, performing data entry, and scheduling appointments.
Assisting front office staff as needed.
Performing manual insurance verifications.
Preparing patients for examination by taking vitals and recording medical history.
Escorting patients to and from exam rooms.
Complying with OSHA and HIPPA regulations.
Scheduling surgeries by making arrangements with surgical centers, verifying times with patients, and preparing necessary forms.
Assisting the physician with procedures.
Administering injections as directed by the physician.
Performing casting for orthotics.
Applying below-knee casts.
Applying Low Dying strapping to feet.
Applying Unna Boots.
Performing nail debridement.
Performing callus/corn debridement.
Performing dressing changes.
Performing X-Rays.
Documenting phone calls.
Returning patient messages and completing in-baskets.
Updating logs.
Unpacking and storing daily deliveries of medical products and supplies.
Retrieving and assembling materials for casting, including large basins of warmed water.
Reaching for pre-fabricated inserts from overhead or under-counter storage.
Aiding foot positioning for weight-bearing X-rays by kneeling or stooping.
Inserting and removing X-ray sensors.
Assisting patients on and off treatment chairs, moving limbs, and removing/replacing shoes and boots.
Sitting on the floor to remove shoes/socks or perform nail debridements.
Holding limbs in position during casting and bandage application.
Processing instruments, including rinsing, cleansing, packaging, and sterilization.
Preparing sterile trays for procedures.
Assisting with procedures by passing medications, cutting sutures, providing saline flushes, and retrieving specimens.
Applying bandages.
Performing routine nail debridements using manual instrumentation and motorized grinders.
Drawing and delivering medications to treatment rooms.
Bringing patients to treatment rooms, assisting them into chairs, taking vitals, and recording medical history into electronic charts.
Wiping down chairs, counters, and touched items with sanitizer after each patient visit.
Removing trash from rooms and replacing bags at the end of each treatment session or day.
Collecting and bringing trash bags to an on-site dumpster.
