Medical Assistant for busy provider. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Hours Monday through Friday and one long shift from 8a-7p. JOB TYPE Classification: Non Exempt Supervises Positions: JOB SUMMARY This role requires a commitment to UVA Health’ ASPIRE values: Accountability, Stewardship, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect, and Equity, ensuring high standards of patient care and collaborative work environment.The Medical Assistant will provide clinical support, assist with administrative tasks, and provide general support under direct supervision of a licensed practitioner or designee in accordance with UVA Health policies and procedures and competency to promote patient health and wellness. This position requires providing service to all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED Required.
Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinic setting preferred.
Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) credentials or completion of an approved medical assistant program required.
Must obtain certification within 6 months of date of hire through a recognized national professional association such as: AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), AMT (American Medical Technologists), ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants), NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions), NHA (National Healthcare Association).
AHA Healthcare Provider BLS required.
Ability to successfully complete general and department role based specific skills validation and competency testing.

Responsibilities

Provide clinical support, assist with administrative tasks, and provide general support under direct supervision of a licensed practitioner or designee in accordance with UVA Health policies and procedures and competency to promote patient health and wellness.
Practicing safely within the defined standards of practice.
Records and relays patient information, symptoms, and concerns to the patient’s medical provider or registered nurse for further triage assessment and to determine a plan of care.
Completes standardized rooming and performs clinical intake, health data collection, and documentation.
Performs tasks according to scope of practice, documented competencies, and as directed by a licensed practitioner or nurse.
Implements age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs as directed by the patient’s medical provider.
Reinforces patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient through approved educational materials or written instructions.
Willing to share responsibilities, support their teammates, and work together to achieve common goals.
Organizes and prioritizes daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.
Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care.
Recognizes the importance of time sensitive issues.
Uses knowledge and skills acquired through training and validation through competency testing.
Provides clinical support under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
Documents and capture charges for clinical support services rendered within the patient visit.
Performs administrative support responsibilities as directed by a Clinic Leader.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
