The Medical Assistant will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care. This role involves performing rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings. The Medical Assistant will also assist providers with procedures, perform lab-related duties including venipuncture and specimen collection, and conduct Point of Care testing (POCT). They will complete CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing. Additionally, the Medical Assistant will administer medications and vaccines safely, and perform other duties such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, patient messaging, and appointment scheduling. Cross-training for duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice is expected. The role requires effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation. Maintaining a clean work environment, ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, and keeping areas stocked are also key responsibilities. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, understanding the principles of growth and development over the life span.
