About The Position

Optimus Health Care, the largest provider of primary care services in Fairfield County, is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team. The Medical Assistant is a key member of the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care team, working closely with providers, nurses, and front office staff to ensure efficient and timely patient flow. This role requires a strong commitment to patient care, cultural sensitivity, and strict confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required
  • Certification required through one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
  • Candidates with formal medical assistant training through a U.S. military branch may also be considered
  • Experience in a clinical setting required
  • Strong communication and patient care skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse populations

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with telemedicine preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Ability to interpret medical terminology (language assessment may be required)

Responsibilities

  • Greet and prepare patients in accordance with established clinical procedures
  • Educate patients on exam preparation, home care, and basic health topics
  • Collect and document vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, weight, and other growth parameters
  • Perform basic clinical procedures (e.g., hemoglobin, glucose testing, pregnancy tests, urinalysis, EKGs, throat cultures) as directed
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures
  • Maintain exam room readiness, including cleaning, stocking supplies, and checking expiration dates
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, confidentiality, and privacy standards
  • Support clinical operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Participate in team huddles and pre-visit planning to support patient care
  • Maintain accurate documentation and an organized, efficient work environment
  • Provide Spanish/English interpretation as needed
  • Maintain competency in clinical equipment and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
