The Medical Assistant (MA) will adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on the area of specialty when providing patient care. This role involves performing rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings. The MA will assist providers with or perform procedures as ordered, and handle lab-related duties including venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. The position also includes performing Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order and completing CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards. Administering medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration is also a key responsibility. Other duties may include medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals. The MA will be cross-trained to perform duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice within the scope of the Medical Assistant. Demonstrating effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation are essential. Maintaining a clean work environment, ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, and ensuring equipment and supplies are in working order and areas are stocked are also required. The role requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including understanding of growth and development over the life span and the ability to assess and interpret patient status relative to age-specific needs.
