The Medical Assistant performs basic direct patient care activities, such as lab tests, treatments, and medication/immunization administration, under the direction of the Nurse and/or physician. These duties support patient examination and treatment. The incumbent also carries out clerical activities, quality control, and performance improvement initiatives in support of the physician practice and serves as a resource for clerical/clinical staff. This role involves delivering direct and indirect patient care, collecting patient healthcare data, completing treatments and testing, preparing patients for examinations, and communicating pertinent information to the physician or nurse. Additionally, the Medical Assistant performs clerical functions, answers telephones, obtains and verifies patient demographic and insurance information, enters codes and charges into the billing system, and completes necessary patient care forms. Patient safety, infection control, and continuous survey readiness are key aspects of this role. The position also requires knowledge of scheduling surgeries, procedures, and testing, as well as providing exit counseling and preparing charts for clinic sessions.
