Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of a vocational or technical college in medical assisting.
  • Experience working as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting
  • Skilled in all medical assisting competencies (e.g., immunizations, vitals, taking labs, etc.)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence and knowledge of medical procedures and terminology.
  • Excellent Customer Service, Professionalism, Teamwork, Dependability, Organizational Skills, Time Management skills and strong attention to detail skills
  • Excellent computer, data entry skills and competent with electronic health records
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking, active listening, decision making skills and prioritize.
  • Ability to read, comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to work self-sufficiently on assigned tasks with little supervision.
  • Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Electronic health records software (OCHIN EPIC preferred).
  • Utilization of Paycom, and PolicyTech systems.
  • Medical Assistant Certification
  • Current AED CPR certification or attainment within 6 months of hire.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test.
  • Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.
  • Must pass criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients, measure vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, O2 SAT.
  • Verify and obtain patient information and medical history.
  • Prepare patients for examination and prepare examinations rooms.
  • Administer injectable and oral medications.
  • Administer injectable and oral immunizations to infants and adults, including Mantoux test.
  • Perform routine in office lab duties such as Hct, urinalysis dipstick, pregnancy test, strep antigen screen, Hgb A1c, blood glucose, blood lead, and other CLIA waived laboratory tests.
  • Operate medical equipment such as EKG, vitals machine, Audiometry, Nebulizer treatment, Tympanometry, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform office procedures such as Snellen, ear lavage, minor wound dressing, splinting and assist with minor procedures.
  • Assist with referrals such as making referrals, calls medical facility or department to schedule patients and request reports.
  • Ensure exam rooms are cleaned and restocked with medical supplies on a daily basis and monthly expirations are performed.
  • Coordinates closely with supervisor/manager with any clinical issues, maintenance/equipment repair, and report any supply request to the supervisor/manager.
  • Prepares daily huddle for providers, and runs reports from computerized registries, or software programs such as EHR and i2i.
  • Ensure that patient records are accurate and complete, ensure that encounter forms are completed properly.
  • Ensures that all clinical Team responsibilities/tasks are completed appropriately, satisfactorily and in a timely manner
  • Prepares appropriate forms as required for the patient’s medical treatment based on findings of physician.
  • Gives counseling, care and follow-up instructions, health education and materials to patients under the direct supervision of a Physician, Podiatrist or Licensed Nurse.
  • Performs general office duties such as answering telephones, taking messages, and scheduling appointments.
  • May serve as a VFC Coordinator/Back up Coordinator for VFC Program and for Private/County vaccine programs
  • May rotate within Primary Care Teams, First 5 Program and Specialty Clinics
  • Assumes responsibility for own personal and professional growth.
  • Maintains a safe and secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Other duties may be assigned
  • May be assigned to work at the Santa Ysabel Clinic and will be responsible for all associated duties of a Medical Assistant
  • Position may be re-assigned during activation of EOP.
