About The Position

The Medical Assistant position at Advanced Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Kingwood, TX, reports directly to a Physician supervisor. This role encompasses a broad range of patient care and administrative duties. Key responsibilities include managing patient flow, assisting with examinations and procedures, documenting patient health information, providing basic medical care, and applying/removing casts and splints. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for preparing injections, performing wound care, setting up sterile trays, and handling administrative tasks such as scheduling surgeries, lab tests, and referrals. The role requires strict adherence to infection control, safety guidelines, and patient confidentiality policies, including HIPAA, OSHA, and Red Flag Rules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Maintains current CPR certification
  • Appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality methods
  • Health information management by appropriately charting patient data
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Cooperative work attitude toward co-employees, management, patients, visitors, outsourced companies and physicians
  • Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, timeliness, organization, little supervision needed to complete tasks, and ability to multitask
  • Understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families
  • Dependability including traits such as attendance, punctuality, ability to follow instructions and ability to meet deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • LVN, CMA, CST preferred or equivalent experience
  • Prefer current state license or national certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform Medical Assistant/Clinician duties
  • Handle patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include scheduling and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assist patients with changing to exam gowns, and transfer to exam table if needed
  • Assess patient’s general condition and collect patient history
  • Document health history, activities, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record
  • Provide basic patient care as ordered by physician and assist physician with various procedures
  • Provide patient education materials, communicates physician advice/instructions to patient
  • Perform cast and splint application and removal
  • Fit patients with braces, boots, other DME as ordered by physician
  • Perform wound dressing changes
  • Prepare injections
  • Perform suture and staple removal
  • Perform sterile tray set-ups
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports
  • Schedule surgery, hospital procedures and pre- and post-op appointments
  • Schedule MRI, CT scans, labs, etc.
  • Schedule referrals to other physicians
  • Clean and stock exam rooms
  • Adhere to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies
  • Comply with HIPAA, OSHA and Red Flag Rules
