Requirements

  • 1 - 2 years experience as a medical assistant with basic wound care, patient safety and patient transport techniques.
  • Good basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of communication of patient status through recording and reporting of clinical data (i. e. vital signs, pulse oximetry, height and weight), basic medical terminology.
  • Epic EMR

Responsibilities

  • Reports changes in patient's condition to the RN or MD.
  • Completes duties requesting assistance as needed.
  • Carries out responsibilities in a timely fashion, requesting assistance as needed.
  • Maintains a cost-effective approach to patient care.
  • Uses type and quantity of materials to meet patient care requirements at the least cost.
  • Maximizes efficiency and productivity.
  • Identifies and recommends ways to improve efficiency and/or outcomes in work standards.
  • Performs support activities that maintain unit operations, as assigned (such as preparing patients for transport, keeping egress clear).
  • Provides feedback to personnel as necessary to acknowledge and/or improve quality (i. e. timeliness, efficiency, appropriateness, patient satisfaction).
  • Recognizes and reports use of costly or excessive quantity of materials.
  • Exchanges appropriate and professional information with coworkers.
  • Communicates to appropriate person when deadlines cannot be met and identifies barriers to task completion.
  • Initiates emergency interventions (heartsaver) as appropriate according to unitbased standard of care.
  • Gives verbal handoffs and patient reports to RN and other colleagues, at breaks, change of shifts and before leaving the unit.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of emergent/urgent situations; initiates emergency interventions (Heartsaver) as appropriate.
  • Accurately records data (i. e. vital signs, heights and weight).
  • Documents per established HSS/office guidelines.
  • Completes mandatory annual elearning.
  • Maintains clinical competencies by attending Hospital wide inservices as approved and assigned by Patient Care Director.
  • Follows and implements established policies and procedures to ensure patient safety.
  • Promotes utilization of principles of Infection Control and Standard precautions in the performance of patient care activities.
  • Follows procedures for malfunctioning equipment as outlined by the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
  • Immediately reports safety and security problems to the appropriate persons.
  • Offers emotional, physical or spiritual support for patients and family members.
  • Takes steps to maintain the patient's physical and personal privacy.
  • Checks unit refrigerators and records temperatures on refrigerator daily logs and/or AED, as applicable.
  • Monitors other patients on unit during emergency situation and communicates issues to appropriate nurse.
  • Completes assignments and meets deadlines.
  • Uses and maintains HSS equipment, furnishings and facilities as intended.
  • Prepares patient for invasive joint injections/aspirations utilizing sterile techniques.
  • Stocks exam rooms weekly and as needed.
  • Ensures that patient care areas are clean, neat and ready for patient use.
  • Maintains the patient's medical records according to requirements.
  • Obtains and reports vital signs to the RN or physician, as applicable.
  • Participates in programs and huddles as designated.
  • Assists with changing of postop dressings, removal of sutures, and carries out appropriate wound care, under direct supervision of clinical privileged license personnel, as applicable.
  • Works cooperatively within own unit/department and with other units/departments.
  • Acts as team player, as indicated by feedback from the care delivery team/ office, clinic team as applicable.
