Requirements

Successful completion of a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification must be obtained within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certification or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

Recognize urgent/emergent patient needs and initiate appropriate emergency procedures.
Function within payor regulations and clinic procedures.
Manage the electronic medical record, including test results, filing, creation, and charging.
Facilitate interdisciplinary communication and utilize the healthcare team for patient assessment.
Assess and address patient and family learning needs, providing accurate information.
Evaluate patient and family understanding of treatment plans and instructions.
Assist with procedures, exams, and operation of diagnostic equipment (e.g., EKG, spirometry, tympanometry).
Maintain aseptic technique for preparation, procedures, and medication administration.
Accurately document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record.
Report results and pertinent information to patients and healthcare team members.
Perform basic medical assistant functions such as taking vitals, rooming patients, assisting with procedures, administering immunizations and medication injections, under provider supervision.
Maintain professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.
Maintain supplies in assigned areas.
