About The Position

The Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of Physicians, providing quality care to patients and assisting the Physician and Nurse in the clinical setting. This role participates in the planning, coordinating, and documenting of total patient care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary treatment team. Responsibilities include preparing patient charts, taking vitals, gathering admission information, inputting data into electronic medical records, scheduling follow-up appointments, assisting with discharge planning, and handling referrals and medical records requests. The Medical Assistant accurately reports and records patient conditions, assists patients with daily living activities, and teaches self-care techniques. They also answer phones, schedule intake appointments, and complete clinical notes. The role requires efficiency, organization, prioritization, cost-effectiveness, and the ability to handle high-stress and high-volume work environments. Additionally, the Medical Assistant must display flexibility, problem-solving skills, customer sensitivity, constructive feedback acceptance, punctuality, and adherence to the attendance policy. A warm, empathic attitude, respect for others, high personal integrity, and the ability to work under supervision with demanding patients are essential.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of medical assistants.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Certification in Basic Life Support required.
  • Certification in non-violent crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the Physicians. Assists with other duties as assigned.
  • Provides quality care to patients and assists the Physician and Nurse in the clinical setting.
  • Participates in the planning, coordinating and documenting total patient care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary treatment team and under the direction of the physicians.
  • Prepares charts for patient visits with proper paperwork. Takes vitals, gathers admission information, and inputs data into the electronic medical records.
  • Schedules follow up appointments and assists with discharge planning. Faxes outgoing referrals and medical records requests, etc.
  • Accurately reports and records the patient’s condition and care, including signs and symptoms which may be indicative of change.
  • Assists the patient with activities of daily living while teaching appropriate self-care techniques.
  • Assists in answering the phones, and scheduling Intake appointments.
  • Completes, maintains, and submits accurate and relevant clinical notes.
  • Displays flexibility and willingness to help others, identifies and offers solutions to problems, vision, foresight, and customer sensitivity.
  • Performs job with efficiency necessary to complete assignments within established time restraints and procedural guidelines.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work while being cost-effective and conserving resources.
  • Able to tolerate high-stress and high volume work.
  • Deals constructively with stress, uses appropriate customer etiquette in dealing with patients, families, and inquiries.
  • Offers and accepts constructive feedback and responds appropriately to direction.

  • Is punctual in all aspects of work, and adheres to attendance policy.
  • Good physical and mental health as evidenced by warm empathic attitude.

  • Ability to work under close supervision with distractions/demanding patients and follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to satisfy requirements for Healthcare Provider CPR and CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention).
