Assist physicians with medical procedures in office. Responsible for phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance. This role involves performing proper quality control procedures before patient testing, laboratory blood work, and blood draws. You will follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, perform technical laboratory procedures accurately and precisely, and prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation. The position also includes sending outside labs to appropriate facilities, maintaining test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists. You will adhere to patient identification policies, obtain vital signs, document patient information in the EMR system, and prepare patients for physician examinations. Receiving and documenting lab reports, assisting physicians with procedures like bone marrows, fine needle aspirates, paracentesis, and pelvic exams are key responsibilities. Scheduling outside testing, referrals, and hospital admissions may also be required. Thorough documentation in the medical record, preparing encounter forms for billing, and documenting QC/QA corrective actions are essential. You will also show physicians critical blood counts, obtain and prepare scan and CDs for physician review, and maintain adequate supply inventory. Troubleshooting instrument malfunctions and performing EKG testing are also part of the role. The Medical Assistant must ensure the laboratory is in compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies, perform compliance testing, and obtain required CEUs annually. Observing safety guidelines, maintaining cleanliness, and complying with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care, rights, safety, billing, and collections are mandatory. Adherence to all company policies and procedures, including IT and Disaster Recovery, and maintaining patient information confidentiality is required. You will also assist in training new employees and may be expected to work at any company location or work overtime when needed.
